Keith Swanson was raised on a wheat and cattle ranch in Central Oregon where he still has family and many friends. He graduated from Oregon State University and then went on to Willamette University for his law degree. Mr. Swanson and his wife, Karen, are members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. In his professional career, Mr. Swanson has represented thousands of clients in serious injury and wrongful death cases arising out of automobile accidents, defective products and medical mistakes. He successfully has negotiated many large settlements for his clients. While he has tried many cases before a jury successfully, Mr. Swanson focuses first on trying to get cases resolved without the costly, time-consuming and unpredictable process of trial. In so doing, he has participated in many mediations and arbitrations with excellent results. He often has been selected by lawyers to serve as an arbitrator and, as such, has decided many arbitration cases involving personal injury and wrongful death. Mr. Swanson is, and for many years has been, an AV-Rated Attorney which means he has been awarded the highest rating in legal ability and ethical standards by the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating Service. Mr. Swanson is a past member of the Board of Governors for the Oregon State Bar and a Past Treasurer for the Oregon State Bar. He was on the Board of Directors of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association for several years and was a delegate from Oregon for the American Trial Lawyers Association. He is a past-President of the Marion County Bar Association. He has served on numerous Bar committees both those of the Marion County Bar and the Oregon State Bar. He was Chairman of the State Medical-Legal Committee for three years and Chairman of the local Medical-Legal Committee for five years. He also was a member of the Marion County Judicial Selection Committee for several years. Mr. Swanson was a founding Charter Member of the Oregon Law Foundation, which was set-up to obtain and distribute funds to provide legal services to those who otherwise would not have the means to obtain them. In 2009, the Oregon Law Foundation Board of Directors approved grants totaling $2,000,000.00. Mr. Swanson has served as a pro tem judge in Linn County, as well as, Salem Municipal Court. He has been a mentor for students from Willamette University’s College of Law and a Moot Court Judge there also.
